Prior to his position in the Victorian Parliament, Nick worked in a variety of industrial relations(IR) and human resource(HR) roles for the Victorian Government, the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC), the Nillumbik Shire Council and the Adecco Group.
During this period, Nick undertook a variety of tertiary studies at La Trobe University, RMIT and Monash University; which included a Masters Degree in Industrial and Employee Relations.
A passionate representative for his local community, Nick was first elected to represent the Knox community in 2003 with his election as a Councillor with the City of Knox.
In 2006, Nick was elected to the Victorian Parliament as the State Member for Ferntree Gully. Nick was appointed by then Opposition Leader, Ted Baillieu MP, as Shadow Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader in 2008 and to Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Community Services in 2009.
In 2010, Nick was re-elected as the Member for Ferntree Gully and was appointed to the position of Parliamentary Secretary for Health. Early in 2013, Premier Denis Napthine elevated Nick to the position of Cabinet Secretary.
In March 2014, Nick was appointed as Minister for Higher Education and Skills and the 2014 State Election saw him re-elected as the Member for Ferntree Gully.
Between December 2014 and November 2018, Nick held the shadow portfolios of Education and Environment. He currently holds the shadow portfolios of Ageing, Child Protection, Industrial Relations and Workplace Safety in the Liberal-Nationals Opposition.
Nick is a passionate and dedicated representative for the Knox community. He, his wife Levili and their children live in Rowville.
