The latest Parliamentary Budget Office report has blown the whistle on Daniel Andrews’ dodgy West Gate Tunnel deal.
The report shows that daily CityLink commuters will be charged an extra $87,060 in tolls over the life of the agreement with Transurban to pay for the new tunnel.
As part of the deal, Transurban stands to net $37.3 billion in extra tolls, with $26.5 billion coming exclusively from CityLink users—around 71 per cent of the toll revenue boost.
More than 60,000 people from Knox travel to work each day by car, and many of them rely on CityLink to travel around Melbourne and to get to and from airports and regional cities.
But as a result of the Andrews Government’s dodgy deal, CityLink users from Knox who may not even use the new tunnel will pay more for it than those who do.
Comments attributable to Nick Wakeling, State Member for Ferntree Gully
“This is a terrible deal for CityLink users in Knox, who’ll be paying extra tolls whether they use this new tunnel or not.”
“It shows that Transurban’s profit margins are more important to Daniel Andrews than the hip pockets of motorists in Melbourne’s east.”
“This is just another slap in the face for motorists from the arrogant Andrews Government.”
