Motorists in Knox will continue to be stuck in traffic after the Andrews Labor Government again rejected the $4 billion on offer from the Federal Liberal Government to build the desperately needed East West Link.
In Question Time today, Treasurer Tim Pallas stated “I’ll be clear, we are not building this road.”
The East West Link would not cost the Victorian Budget a single cent, yet Daniel Andrews is calling the $4 billion on offer “a piece of paper and a few words”.
Infrastructure experts, including Infrastructure Australia and Infrastructure Victoria, all agree that the East West Link needs to be built. Motorists in Knox who are constantly stuck on the Eastern Freeway know that the East West Link needs to be built.
With the North East Link set to put 100,000 extra vehicles onto the already congested Eastern Freeway, the need for the East West Link has never been greater.
Daniel Andrews needs to listen to motorists in Knox and stop putting pride and politics ahead of Victorians.
Daniel Andrews is effectively being offered a free road. Having wasted $1.3 billion of taxpayers’ money on ripping up East West Link once, it would be sheer bloody-mindedness for the Andrews Labor Government to turn their back on $4 billion now.
Comments attributable to Member for Ferntree Gully, Nick Wakeling
“If Daniel Andrews hadn’t cancelled the contract four years ago at a cost to taxpayers’ of $1.3 billion, construction of the East West Link would now be almost complete.
Instead, motorists in Knox moving between the eastern and western suburbs will remain stuck in congestion and that means less time with family and friends.
Daniel Andrews must not let his ego stop the Federal Liberal Government from delivering this much needed road to Victoria.”
