During this fire season, it’s important to be prepared for danger and to support others in times of need. We should also be prepared to help protect those who protect us.
Our CFA volunteers in Knox provide a great service, but they don’t currently have the right to compensation from risks arising from their important work.
That’s why my Liberal colleagues and I recent voted in the Parliament to reintroduce legislation for firefighters’ presumptive rights to cancer compensation.
Firefighters have been promised Presumptive Rights legislation since 2014. Cancer does not discriminate – and neither should cancer compensation.
The health and wellbeing of CFA volunteers should be of the highest concern to all lawmakers. But sadly, the Andrews Labor Government voted down the bill to reintroduce this legislation for a second time.
My Liberal colleagues and I will continue to stand up for our firefighters and ensure their needs and voices are represented.
