After surveying residents who live near the intersection of High Street Road and Fonteyn Drive in Wantirna South, they have made it very clear to me that they want to see action in respect of improvements at this intersection.
Residents believe that it is very badly designed and feel that there are many contributing factors, which include High Street Road being an 80 kilometre dual-lane road, that the intersection merges with the end of a very busy shopping strip, that it is near a pedestrian crossing and petrol station, that it is near the entrance of EastLink and busy Stud Road and that it now carries extra traffic from the new Harcrest Boulevard, with Fonteyn Drive being used as an alternative route to avoid busy Stud Road and High Street Road as well as significant traffic being added for parents who are attending Waverley Christian College.
When I recently met on site with local residents I saw firsthand the traffic banking up on both sides of High Street Road, making it impossible during peak hour for residents to enter into or exit from Fonteyn Drive and High Street Road.
On behalf of local residents, I have contacted the Minister for Roads, requesting an onsite meeting with local residents and VicRoads with the purpose of progressing the implementation of a ‘Keep clear’ road marking at this intersection.
