Industrial Relations Minister Tim Pallas has been caught out taking advice from disgraced CFMMEU boss John Setka on how to get more women in construction.
At today’s Public Accounts and Estimates Committee hearing, the Liberal Nationals uncovered that Mr Setka is still a member of the Andrews Government’s Building Industry Consultative Council, even after learning that Mr Setka is set to plead guilty to charges of harassing a woman.
This same Building Industry Consultative Council has been charged with developing a ‘Women in Construction Strategy’ for the Andrews Government since 2018, at a cost to taxpayers of at least $500,000.
It’s beggars belief that Mr Pallas has not sought to remove Mr Setka as part of the Building Industry Consultative Council. But what is more concerning is that Labor are continuing to run a protection racket for Mr Setka.
Just this week both Premier Daniel Andrews and Federal Labor Leader Anthony Albanese have refused to call out Mr Setka’s behaviour and demand him to stand down from his role as secretary of the CFMMEU, or act to see him expelled from the Labor Party.
There is no place in our society for violence against women, and it is untenable for Daniel Andrews and his Labor colleagues to stand idly by in light of Mr Setka’s planned guilty plea.
Tim Pallas has been exposed, taking advice on women in construction from disgraced CFMMEU boss John Setka.
The standard Daniel Andrews walks past is the standard he accepts.
Daniel Andrews must show leadership and cut all ties between his government and John Setka.
